New Titles November 2011

Here’s what I’m excited about this month:

• Baby’s very first touchy-feely playbook – a fun and different touchy-feely book
• Two new Farmyard Tales Flap Books
• Little Children’s Book of Things to Do – an almost complete bind-up of the First Activities titles (4+)
• For a little older: 1000 Things to Make and Do – a compilation of the projects from ‘365 Things to Make and Do’, ‘365 Things to Draw and Paint’ and ‘365 Things to do with Paper and Cardboard’. An excellent value (52% off)! (5+)
• Famous Artists – an introduction to the life and works of 35 of the world’s most famous artists, including Van Gogh, Dali and Michaelangelo. Appealing to older children (9+) and adults alike.

I feel like I say this a lot, but there is so much to choose from this month!

New Titles September 2011

Our new and re-released titles this month show that summer is pretty much over. The upside is that we’ve got some fun occasions to look forward to!

Some highlights:

• Illustrated Robin Hood features not only stories, but also a 25-page section on the life and times of this famous figure
• 3 more titles in the wonderful internet-linked Historical House series (9+): Polly’s March (1914 – the suffrage movement), Josie Under Fire (1941 – the Blitz), and Andie’s Moon (1969 – the moon landing)

New Titles August 2011

Highlights from this month’s new titles:

• Phonics workbooks 1 & 2 correspond to the Very First Reading levels 1 and 2. There’s colouring, drawing and copying to provide
  an introduction to essential reading and writing skills, and stickers to add to the fun. I’m excited to start using these with my son.
• Perfect Pet and Bad Jack Fox are new Very First Reading titles at level 3 and 4, respectively. Be sure to check out the Very First Reading microsite, which has resources and activities to support the reading series.
• Starting School is a new First Sticker Book for children entering school for the first time.
• Lizzie’s Wish and Cecily’s Portrait are books 2 and 3 in the new Historical House series for girls aged 9+. I’m loving these books!
• 20 Party Invitations to Colour are a great way for your child to personalize invitations for their friends.

Highlights from this month’s new titles:

• Adventures in Puzzle World (now in hardcover) is an excellent value, as it contains the following Usborne Young Puzzle titles: Puzzle Castle, Puzzle Planet, Puzzle Dinosaurs, Puzzle Holiday, Puzzle School, Puzzle Pirates, Puzzle Dungeon and Puzzle Ocean.
• Two more Wipe-Clean books to help your child learn pencil control: Alphabet and First Letters.
• Two new additions to the Very First Reading series: Double Trouble (VFR 1) and Captain Mac (VFR 2). These complement existing titles by allowing for consolidation of reading skills.
• Two additions to the excellent Beginners Plus series: Helicopters and Motorbikes.
• A slew of colouring books: The Big Colouring Book offers more than just colouring – check out the See Inside to find out what makes this book different. Also, Lots of things to find and colour on holiday and the much-awaited Soccer colouring book. For older children/teens/adults, there is the Flowers colouring book.
• And my favourite title this month… Mary Ann and Miss Mozart. The first in a historical fiction series for age 9+.
